Spooon? THE Spooon has returned? Hmm. This is interesting now...it seem my RIVAL has an advantage. I have heard legends of this Spooon soloing Jailers...but enough on that. First to explain my AF1 BLM Pants. I don't have money to afford new pants and outside of those are my Custom Pants. I, also, am not a fan of BCNMs. Not confident enough yet to solo them all, and don't have enough seals to do multiple runs. Finally to answer your question on gear, it only helps in modifying base damage, but it doesn't get you anywhere if you don't know the JOB and what that job DOES, or the appropriate spell to use on each mob. It also does you no good to cast spells when you don't know the proper tier needed to maximize damage OR to conserve MP. Example: What good is it to have the finest gear and items when you are only capable of doing tier I thunders on the likes of say, Kirin? (Yeah, bad example but WORK with me here) And if you don't have the proper subjob for your main job, your fighting a losing battle. So gear is really an after thought or the last thing your focus should be on. Knowing what you're up against, its weaknesses, proven strategies on it, your own pacing and nuking practices, THESE are the factors that determine the greatest of the great (Spooon and his protige Nugzkraka) from the up and comers (Yours truly :) ).

Nugz not only have the gear, sub jobs, and skills, he also knows how to use it effectively. If you truly want to call yourself his rival, you'd start farming seals to do BCNMs and make money to buy gears. This "I don't need gear to beat you" crap is ludicrous. I highly doubt you'd ever come close to Nugz's level.

Oh btw, I think you're wrong on the Kirin part. I've seen BLMs nuke Kirin just fine. They even pulled hate and started kiting. :o

thunder on kirin lol man you crack me up!

You are right though if you have gear and dont know how to use it. it makes the gear worthless. BUT you dont even listen to yourself:P

BTW search wiki... look for alternatives for gears... there are some cheaper peices you can get.

For example: Seer's slacks are better then your AF1 legs for nuking...

Ash is right, but when Itachi tanks NIN/DRK its very hard to pull hate off him

I head of people duo'ing Fort, but not solon any jailer. I tried Faith many times solo with a very bad ending lol. I would kite around the outer ring becuase Faith is way to fast and just DoT it to death. DoT or nuke it and zone.. run back and repeat. The problem is either the dot wears off and it regens, or the adds you get running to Faith or the porter kill you. Ix'Aerns although are almost solo'able, MNK can be if you have someone sac for you(so really duo), same with DRK if someone sacs for you. DRG although I did solo to 12% before it did deperation... or w/e its called (erase) duo able easy

You might want to look into errant legs Kuwa, I'm pretty sure they are like 10k?

Int + 7 Mnd +7 IIRC

Mahatma / Morrigains would be best for regular nuking (Assuming you do not have relic legs + obi and its not the corresponding elemental day to those items) , AF1 should be on your aspir /drain macro's.

AF1 legs have +drk skill right? Cant remeber for the life of me.

Wow. These are some good responses. But first, Ashiana, I wasn't saying that BLMs shouldn't nuke, just that if they are so focused on gear and not on the necessary spells needed to take a mob down their focus is off. Also the Kirin example was a bad choice, but it was all I could think up at the time.
Sorry if I offended you. I am fully aware that Nugzkraka has the skills, but that doesn't mean I should back down from this challenge. No one should back away from bettering themselves. I see surpassing Nugz as a goal. He himself has nothing to lose from this. But I thank you my RIVAL on your advice on searching Wikipedia for alternatives. But Seers? I'll need to investigate this.
Also, wouldn't you want to use higher level gears? Oh well, they are still useful so I should be willing to try. Also having food items too is an alternative as well as potions can be an alternative (though temporary). Am I making excuses? Perhaps. But I am simply letting you know of my situation, since you're aware of my RIVAL's. Well, I'm not a fan of Sky gear and I'll look into the Errant Pants. Morrigans is a long shot, but not impossible! ;)
I would be glad to see Spooon, myself and Nugzkraka together someday. At the very least, I can learn a lot from them and they can learn from me (for what little I can offer).

PS. I look forward to seeing you guys in your Dynamis-Beaucedine!

level has nothing to do with how usefull said peice of equipment is. An example would be the cassie earing, its level 1 but you see level 75s use it. A blm example would be that crown that gives magic attack bonus in an area thats wither outside or inside(i for get which) your nations area of control. Level doest effect usefull ness, that can be your first bit of knowledge gleaned from the boards:p

Damn Kuwa, thanks for the lol. I learned to stop trying to outnuke tarus a long time ago. Especially with all the new gear that comes out, the damage difference between races becomes more and more apparent. I say use your additional hp to your advantage and try to do things that others cant. Dunno if extra HP can necessarily make anything soloable over other races, but it can at least buy you some more margin for error. All I gotta say is good luck and you got a long road ahead!

Thanks Phatdan! And thank you all for your advice!

Also, to clarify, it's NOT that gear doesn't matter, it makes little difference. Little difference CAN go a long way but what good is gear when the person using it doesn't know what to do with it effectively. I have a low amount of gear becuase I focus more on the fight. I'm not promoting naked runs against High End Mobs either, but time becomes critical in these situations. Even macroing gear takes precious seconds that could be costly to the group, but I do see the need to do so depending on certain situations.

And yes, it can be possible to out power Tarus (longshot though it may be) but it requires a team effort. :) Standalone power is something I MIGHT have to concede to but MBing over my RIVAL is a possibility. That requires skill (He has it, yes, but that's not what I'm arguing :) ), and no amount of gear, potions, items and/or buffs can change that.

Finally, the gear only helps if your skills in magic and such are already capped. For example, what good is it for a 75 BLM to cast Drain with BLM AF1 Pants if your Dark magic is 20 levels under cap? (Sorry, not the best at making examples but humor the idea) Chances are you have a higher chance of being resisted than anything else, and the MP and time needed to use it was wasted. People tend to be so gear-heavy that they forget they have to skill up their abilities and not let the gear make up for their 'deficiencies'. But enough preaching; probably offended the whole LS for what I said anyways. Still, I am ALWAYS greatful for the knowledge and support of fellow adventurers like yourselves. >.<)b

Sincerely,
Kuwa

PS. One step closer to my goal, and thus my destiny! /hurray

..........it raises your skill +15 so.... it is good, cuase 5 under cap is better then 20 under.

I got 321 dark skill with 11 magic accuracy and I notce a huge difference in drain/aspir/stun

you want to equip the best skill/stats needed for that spell

you keep saying that gear doesn't matter if used wrongly well ofc:P

but your missing the point that you need the gears, a very skilled BLM with no gears wont magically drain or aspir more just cause they have skilllz. Gear plays a huge part in that, I have seen it.
